We Do!

🌿 Eco-tourism

"Ecotourism is more than travel — it's a promise to protect what we explore. When we tread lightly, nature and culture thrive together."

🏔 Biocultural Heritage Conservation

"Biocultural heritage is where tradition and biodiversity live as one. Protecting it means preserving both identity and the earth."

Eco-Tourism for Sustainable Livelihoods and Conservation

"Travel becomes meaningful when it respects the land and uplifts its people. That’s the heart of ecotourism."

Sankhuwasabha Learning Ground is actively promoting ecotourism as a sustainable approach to rural development and environmental conservation across the highlands of Bhotkhola and Makalu Rural Municipalities. Our efforts along the Lungbasama tourism trail include eco-trail maintenance, renovation, and construction, ensuring safe and accessible routes for both visitors and local communities. Complementary infrastructure such as porter shelters, campsites, home stays, and goth stays is being developed to enhance community-based tourism experiences while creating income opportunities for locals.

"Nature doesn't need more tourists, it needs more caretakers. Ecotourism bridges that gap with purpose and respect."

To deepen the impact, we are investing in signage and interpretative material development that highlights the region’s ecological and cultural significance. We also provide nature guide training, along with practical skills in photography and video documentation, equipping youth and locals to become storytellers and guardians of their landscapes. Training on homestay and goth stay hospitality ensures that tourism experiences are rooted in local traditions while meeting sustainable tourism standards.

Furthermore, we support the promotion of local yak products such as cheese, butter, and traditional dairy goods, turning age-old practices into viable economic assets. At a broader level, we are developing a comprehensive master plan for sustainable tourism in both rural municipalities to guide long-term growth that respects cultural heritage and environmental integrity.

At SLG, our work is deeply rooted in local values and driven by the belief that true transformation comes from within communities. By blending indigenous knowledge with innovative approaches, we are fostering resilient ecosystems, empowered communities, and a sustainable future for the people of Sankhuwasabha.
