"Grow harmony with nature — cultivation through permaculture nurtures the earth as it nourishes us."

Cultivation Through Permaculture System

"Permaculture grows more than food — it grows balance, resilience, and life."

We are establishing community learning grounds across 600 ropani in Makalu and Bhotkhola to promote sustainable agriculture practices. This initiative emphasizes the procurement and transformation of land into dynamic learning hubs, the conservation of native seeds, and the promotion of organic farming methods that align with local ecosystems.

In Makalu Rural Municipality, we are in the process of acquiring 150 ropani of land, primarily in Makalu, Karmarang, and Pawakhola areas. This land will serve as the foundation for hands-on learning centers where farmers, students, and researchers can come together to explore and implement sustainable agricultural models. These grounds will demonstrate integrated approaches that combine traditional knowledge with modern organic practices.

In Bhotkhola Rural Municipality, another 450 ropani of land is being secured across Thudam, Ridak, Chyamtang, and Hatiya. These highland areas hold immense potential for agroecological innovation and conservation. The learning grounds in these villages will focus on high-altitude farming, sustainable grazing management, and the promotion of resilient local food systems adapted to the Himalayan environment.

A key component of this initiative is the conservation of local and native seeds. Seed banks will be established and maintained by trained community members to protect agricultural biodiversity and ensure food sovereignty. Workshops and field-based training sessions will be organized to equip local farmers with knowledge on seed selection, saving, and propagation.

We also plan to conduct training workshops to enhance farmers' capacity in organic farming, livestock rearing, organic fertilizer production, and sustainable land management. These sessions will be facilitated by agricultural experts and experienced local practitioners to ensure relevance and practical application.

To increase economic opportunities, we aim to support branding, packaging, organic certification, and marketing of locally produced goods. This will not only add value to agricultural products but also help farmers access broader markets and establish a distinct identity for Himalayan organic produce.

Local farmers’ groups will be strengthened and promoted, fostering collaboration and shared learning. These groups will also play a central role in managing resources, maintaining learning grounds, and advocating for sustainable practices at the community level.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, a trust fund or revolving fund will be established. This fund will provide micro-loans and grants to farmers for sustainable agriculture inputs and enterprise development, empowering them to invest in their future without dependency.

Additionally, the learning grounds will encourage the production and use of organic fertilizers, improved livestock farming practices, and grazing management systems that restore soil fertility and prevent land degradation. This holistic model aims to inspire a new generation of environmentally conscious farmers and resilient rural communities.
