Karma Bhutia

Chairman

Karma Bhutia serves as the Chairman of Sankhuwasabha Learning Grounds (SLG), where he brings decades of grassroots experience, cultural wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the sustainable development of rural Himalayan communities. A respected figure from the region, Karma is deeply connected to the land, people, and traditions of Eastern Nepal—especially within Bhotkhola and Makalu Rural Municipalities. His leadership is grounded in the belief that true progress must honor indigenous knowledge, preserve local heritage, and empower communities from within.

  • Under his guidance, SLG has grown into a dynamic platform for regenerative farming through permaculture, promotion of eco-tourism, and conservation of endangered cultural and natural assets. He actively champions the inclusion of local voices, especially those of farmers, elders, and youth, in decision-making and program design. Karma’s vision is to create self-sustaining learning grounds that serve as living models of ecological balance, cultural pride, and community resilience. His calm, committed, and visionary leadership continues to inspire a movement rooted in tradition and driven by innovation.
